Welcome to Black Ohio, a blog dedicated to preserving and sharing the rich history of Black communities across Ohio. We center community voices to collect and archive untold stories, deepening understanding of Ohio’s Black past while inspiring future generations to carry this work forward.
This is a collective effort rooted in community care and shared responsibility. Black Ohio exists because history lives in our families, neighborhoods, churches, schools, and cultural spaces—and it is through collective participation that these stories are saved. By contributing memories, research, reflections, and lived experiences, we work together to ensure Ohio’s Black history is preserved, honored, and passed on.
Have something to write for Black Ohio Blog? We welcome submissions that help preserve and promote Ohio’s Black history. Writers of all backgrounds are invited to submit original work for publication and join us in building a living community archive.
